Why fibre art sculptures? It happened accidentally… serendipity at work. The local Tourist Information Centre holds an annual Beanie competition to raise money for a community Mental Health group. I had just completed a sample strip of ‘entrelac’ knitted fabric, something entirely new to me and by adding another few rows, I had the basis for a beanie. Then I needed something to decorate it.
Because the predominant colour of the beanie was blue, and I figured people suffering from depression need all the help they can get, I chose to crochet a ‘Bluebird of Happiness’.
I had never crocheted a bird in my life… and I couldn’t find a suitable pattern. A challenge was born – just do it! And here we are! My Beanie won the People’s Choice section and raised a good few dollars for the cause.
